Lowfat Oatmeal Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

I’ve got another banana recipe.  Maybe the best one yet.
Have I mentioned that we grow lots and lots of bananas around here?

Ok.  Just check’n.

This is actually a recipe that I shared way back.
But since I just made these again….and fell in love with them again….I thought they were worthy of a fresh post.

These low fat oatmeal banana cookies are brilliant on many levels:
Whole wheat flour, check.
Oatmeal, check.
Bananas, YES please–the more the merrier.
Agave nectar, such a great choice.
And chocolate chips-obviously a winner.

It’s a simple recipe, and your whole family will LOVE these!

Lowfat Oatmeal Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • Lowfat Oatmeal Banana Chocolate chip Cookies
  • 1. cup whole wheat flour.
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 T. butter.
  • 1/3 c.agave nectar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar unpacked.
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 to 1 cup mashed banana I say the more the better. *we used apple-bananas.
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups oats
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar with a mixer. Add egg, followed by the mashed banana, agave nectar, and vanilla.
  4. Working by hand, stir in the flour mixture, and the oats until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips (I think carob would be great here too. My family disagrees.)
  5. DROP heaping tablespoons of the dough onto baking sheets. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until cookies are light brown at the edges.

Really now…

Pour a cup of cold milk….Dunk…

    Delicious! My families new favourite. Did use slightly more butter and less agave though. Maybe I’ll try using maple syrup in place of Agave to make it more Canadian:)

    I’m in love! I omitted the butter and brown sugar, added a small extra squeeze of agave nectar, and they are delicious! AND I don’t have to feel any guilt!

      Thank you Jenna! Yes, you could really use any sweetener you like. I think agave is quite sweet, so you might want to adjust amounts. I would suggest honey, but if you want to use sugar, I am sure they would come out great that way too. 🙂 Let me know how it goes!

    I think i would end up subbing dried cranberries for the chocolate chips. They would go fabulous with Hawaii 5-0. I should make them Monday so that I have some for next week. As long as I don’t need the kleenix like I did after this last episode last week.

        Nothing major. I used coconut palm sugar instead of brown sugar, coconut oil instead of butter, added a few tablespoons of peanut butter and left out the chocolate chips since I didn’t have any.

    I think you’re doing pretty good with the photography (or is it Josiah?). Those cookies look good enough to eat–even for me who doesn’t like bananas!!
