Boating the Canadian Gulf Islands.

by Monica 5 Comments

Greetings, from my parents boat in the Canadian Gulf Islands...We've had an amazing adventure so far, visiting a new island or harbor almost every day.  My parents planned this trip so well, making sure there was some kind of adventure for the boys at every stop.  We flew into Victoria, and spent one night at the Port of Sidney.  We then made our way to lovely Genoa Bay, then on to Ganges, (on Saltspring Island,) and now we are at Telegraph Harbor, (on Thetas Island.)  The boys have had

Considering Homeschooling? This One’s For you. {A V-log}

by Monica 20 Comments

Hi Friends!...Well, I'm happy to say that by the time you read this, I'll either be on the airplane to Canada, or maybe even cruising the Canadian Gulf Islands on my parents' boat.  (I'm so excited!!  I have been dreaming of this trip for years!)  Before leaving home though,  I've had a lot to do..So much to do to prepare for the boys and I to travel, to prepare to leave Dave alone at home (awww,) and also preparing for the homeschool year that begins just ten days after we get back!  Wow.

What a Teenage Boy Needs Most from his Mom

by Monica 857 Comments

Over the next week, two of my boys have birthdays that end in "teen."  Today, Jonah stepped fresh and eager into his thirteenth year.  Next Saturday, Josiah will swagger his way into fifteen.  How could this be?Slow down boys--I gave birth to you yesterday.But really--I dig this stage.  I feel like I finally understand why I had to go through the baby and toddler years:  This is the reward.  I mean, I love my kids at every stage, but certainly some years nearly killed me.  Now that my

(easy) Summer Berry Trifle

by Monica 7 Comments

Have I mentioned--It's really good to be back.  One of the first things I was dying to do on my return was to get back in my own kitchen.  I wanted to cook: Bake, grill, sauté, steam, simmer, boil, burn, blend...you name it.  (Except burn, I don't try to do that.) Can you imagine--I went an entire month without cooking!?  Seriously, when's the last time I've done that?  I helped with a few meals when we were at friends' homes, but mostly I just ate. Lots of restaurants too.  I ate in all kinds

4 Ingredient Peanut Butter Balls

by Monica 7 Comments

PEANUT BUTTER BALLS:  Four ingredients.  Easy to make. Super satisfying. Welcome to one of my happiest happy places. These little guys have been a favorite in my house since...Well, since I was in my own mom's house. Maybe you grew up with them too? (I've been surprised by how many of my friends never heard of them, that's why I'm here now.) They were a childhood favorite of mine, and somewhere in the old-photo-files there is even a photo of a stack of them with a candle on top, next to a

Coconut Peanut Butter Granola, For the Win

by Monica 10 Comments

I am conducting an unofficial poll today on the hot topic of COLD CEREAL: Does your family eat a lot of cold cereal?  I mean, the kind out of a box from the grocery store.  If so, like how often?  Daily?  Multiple times daily? and... If you remove cold cereal from your home, would there be a potential uprising? I need to know these things so I might determine where my family falls on the spectrum of normal. Or more likely abnormal. **Feel free to skip the drama, and find the recipe for this

Spiritual Growth: What I’m Doing Now {A V-log}

by Monica 10 Comments

I didn't plan it, but it looks like this is a "What I'm Doing Now" theme-week.Well, this time I'm here with a quick little Vlog!  I have been wanting to do more videos here, but it just hasn't been happening lately.  The one subject I have been wanting to get to is that of spirituality. I had a few different things to talk about on the subject, and I haven't even started yet.  :)  Well, when a random moment opened up this week, I grabbed my iPhone and did this short video.  The quality is a

Family Favorite Fish Tacos

by Monica 10 Comments

Does your family have some favorite meal or food traditions?  Like pizza on Fridays, pancakes on Sundays, or maybe something like breakfast in bed on birthdays?... Well, somewhere along the way, Taco Tuesdays started happening in our family. And that is kind of a big deal, because we haven't had a lot of food traditions in our home up until now.  It's not that I don't like the idea--I do.  It's more that I'm inconsistent and lack organizational skills, haha.  But somehow, most Tuesdays over the
