TurtleBayResort_BridgeEntry_MC2015_Effect_LoRes

This last October, while I was at the Gerry Lopez Surf/Yoga retreat at Turtle Bay Resort, I had the chance to experience an amazing massage at the Nalu Kinetic Spa.

Since I happen to be updating my North Shore Favorites list here on my blog, and definitely adding the Nalu Kinetic Spa to it, I thought this would be a great time to share a little review of my experience there.

Further, I decided this was an especially good time for such a post, because this is the time of year that we tend to get really focused on making everyone else  in our life happy…and we often end up personally… burnt out. (amiright?)  Whether we are shopping, or baking, or decorating, or all-of-the-above-ing, we tend to push ourselves to the limit, only to find ourselves drained and exhausted on Christmas day.

So, this post is your official reminder to take time to take care of yourself this holiday season.

In fact, I highly recommend that you go into the holidays with a plan for avoiding burnout.  And one great tip is to book yourself a massage.  Either just before the Christmas rush, or (my personal favorite) you might book a massage for the week following Christmas, so you have something to look forward to!   (Great idea, right?)

Well, wherever you are I’m sure you can find a good massage therapist.  But I am now officially partial to the Nalu Kinetic Spa at Turtle Bay.  I received their Aromatherapy Immersion massage, and it was by far the greatest massage I have ever experienced.

Now the great news…

The Nalu Kinetic Spa at Turtle Bay has OFFERED TO GIVE ONE OF YOU not only the same Aromatherapy Immersion Massage I received, but also a Custom Aroma Manicure and Pedicure!

Nail Spa, Turtle Bay

Seriously–This is heavenly stuff!

You’ll just love the aromatherapy experience.  You use an iPad to select the goals of your treatment:  Stress relief, healing, sports recovery, relaxation, etc. (I think I chose “all of the above”)  The resulting recipe is a blend of oils that your massage therapist puts together to use in your dream massage.  So cool!!

aromatherapy massage oils at Turtle Bay

What I loved most about my time at the Nalu Spa was that it truly was more than a massage.  It was an experience.

Tell me if you relate:  Though I haven’t had a lot of massages in my life, I have always found it hard to transition from a busy life…to a massage table…and then quickly back to normal life again.  (except with greasy, ridiculous-looking hair.)

At Nalu, the experience is so much more.

At the Nalu Kinetic Spa, you have the chance to transition at your own pace…beginning in a fluffy white robe while you are given time to hang out in the outdoor quiet lounge area, sipping hot tea or cold water infused with cucumbers. Whenever you’re ready, you make your way to the massage room — which is open air, with sounds of waves crashing outside. The massage itself was my ideal blend of firm hands and a gentle touch.  The therapist was professional; mostly quiet, but sweet and personable.   (Is there anything worse than a massage therapist that talks the whole time?)  I felt completely nurtured and spoiled. Rejuvenated.  Refreshed.  (“all-of-the-above-d.”)

And then when the massage was complete, the Nalu Spa again provides you with time to transition at your own pace. I enjoyed a hot sauna, then took a long refreshing shower before re-entering the real world.

This was the first time that I have felt both ready to receive a massage, and ready to get back to life again at the end.  (and no crazy greasy hair — yay!)

The Nalu Kinetic Spa has all kinds of great treatments available, so if you are on-island, be sure to check out their menu.  I cannot more highly recommend a visit to the Spa, and you will find a link to this post in my North Shore Favorites menu, so please remember to tell friends about my list if they are planning a visit to Oahu!

Now:  Who wants to enter to win your own Aromatherapy Immersion Massage, AND a Custom Aroma Manicure and Pedicure?  You have a full year to redeem your gift, so even if you don’t live here, you still have time to book your trip!

Please leave a comment telling us what your personal goal would be in your dream massage?  Stress relief?  Rejuvenation?  Sports Recovery?  (all of the above!?)  We’ll draw a name at random on December 12th and winner will be announced in the next post!
ALSO:  If you share on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, let us know (where you share, and your profile name/handle) in your comment and your name will be entered again for each social media share!

Thank you Turtle Bay Spa for offering this fabulous giveaway.  I’ll be seeing you again soon!  (perhaps just after Christmas!? 🙂 )

I sure could use this since I’m a teacher of nineteen. Fourteen kindergarten boys and five girls. My goal: keep Christ in every moment of each day, and keep the holidays full of life!

    Thanks for everything you do!

This would be amazing!!! We will be staying in turtle bay in May and the spa most likely won’t be in my budget so a few hours of relaxation and massage to relieve the stresses from studying and sports would be such a wonderful gift. I love the idea of being able to slowly come out of the massage session to the real world pace. It can be a jolt to the system after a massage when you have to get up and move at regular pace immediately Thank You for this chance.

Thank you Nalu Spa for sharing the aloha.
I would choose all the above.
My goal is to be present.
Whether you’re receiving a massage or spending time with family and friends, remain present. Make memories instead of thinking about your never ending to do list.

I would have given it to my mom, but her visit will be over by the time you do the drawing. So I’ll give it to my neighbor who just had a baby! Maybe I can babysit while she’s getting pampered. Mahalo!

So.. I’m with you , loving the combo of firm hands and a gentle touch in a massage, usually Swedish. With the crazy long hours and my old age I feel like I’m always needing a massage these days!
I’d be honored to get this huge blessing!
Thanks Monica for sharing a new experience and the possibility of trying it.
